This e-Portfolio serves as the culminating project for the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree at San José State University (SJSU). It demonstrates my academic achievements, professional development, and mastery of the core competencies required for the degree. The portfolio reflects the knowledge and skills I have gained throughout the program, as well as how I have applied them in academic, professional, and practical contexts. The contents of this e-Portfolio are structured thusly: In order, each competency includes a statement of competency, hyperlinked evidence demonstrating my competency in the School of Information’s 14 program learning outcomes (PLOs), a conclusion, and references.
To prepare for this e-Portfolio, I set up a multi-tiered MLIS folder in my school Google Drive account when I began the program during Fall 2023. At the beginning of each new semester, I would create a specific semester folder with individual course folders. In each course folder, I saved all course materials and assignments. When I began preparing for this e-Portfolio, I created a separate “e-Port” folder and, nested in this folder, folders for each individual competency (A-H and J-O). I copied relevant evidentiary documents and artifacts here, so they would be readily available to me when I began working on each competency. Guiding the organization of my e-Portfolio was a Google Sheets spreadsheet which contained columns for competency themes, evidence items (with hyperlinks), references, and submission and pass dates. Each row of this organizer contained each competency, which each contained hyperlinks to the working document for the respective competency. These shortcuts and visual references made for an organized and efficient writing process. I made use of the provided e-Portfolio exemplars, which were immensely valuable, and I organized a support group on Google Chat with other students, where we shared our joys, frustrations, and tips (in addition to lots of encouragement).
